Preview competition for Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010

April 7, 2008 - A golf tournament is to be held in Cologne to raise awareness of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010. On April 19, 2008, dozens of golfers will face off against one another while promoting greater acceptance of homosexual, bisexual, transgender and transsexual people.
For an entire day in April, the organizers of the Cologne Gay Games will be holding plenty of interesting activities for active golf players and fans called "Golf Cologne – Be part of it!" Newcomers to the sport will have the opportunity to participate in a four-hour starter workshop with a golf professional, where they can discover how fascinating the game of golf can be. Clubs and balls will be provided.
The preview tournament for the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will take place on April 19, 2008 - on the same course where the Gay Games competition will be held in the year 2010. The tournament is a practice run to ensure the course meets the requirements of the Gay Games, and gives participants a chance to gain experience on the course and get a taste of what the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will be like. Everyone may participate, and anyone may win, regardless of sexual orientation. In keeping with the motto of the Gay Games, "Be part of it!", there are no qualification requirements. The starting fee is 85 Euro, and the starter workshop costs 60 Euro. 25 Euro of each participation fee is granted as donation to Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010.

Golf will be one of the 33 sports disciplines during the Gay Games VIII in Cologne in the first week of August, 2010. A total of 12,000 athletes from more than 70 countries will be on hand for the event, a sporting festival entirely free of discrimination of any kind. Prior to the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 numerous sporting events will be held in Cologne to call attention to the Gay Games.

About Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010:
The next Gay Games will take place in Cologne between 31 July and 7 August 2010. Expected are approximately 12,000 participants from over 70 nations, who will celebrate "the festival of open games" under the motto "Be part of it!" - free from any discrimination. The Gay Games support tolerance towards homosexual, bisexual, transgender and transsexual populations. Everybody can participate in the Gay Games - independent of sexual orientation, sex, race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political creed, athletic and / or physical ability, age, or state of health. The participants will amply demonstrate how to enjoy sport culture together.
Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will offer 33 different sports and four cultural events. The bandwidth of the competitions ranges from soccer and beach volleyball to pool, chess, figure skating and dance. The cultural festival consists of choir and band events as well as an art exhibition and the "International Rainbow Memorial Run" to commemorate all AIDS and breast cancer patients and victims.
