Google Phone: T-mobile G1 Cell Phone Review
One of the best cell phones of 2008 was the T-Mobile G1 cell phone which went for sale in late 2008. Developed by T-Mobile, HTC and Google the cell phone comes loaded with features like a full qwerty keyboard, instant messaging, 3.2 Megapixel camera, email preinstalled and customizable touch screens.
Powered by Google, the G1 also features a one-touch option for Google search, incredibly easy access to Google apps, Google Talk, Google Calendar and YouTube. as well as real-time web browsing and a music player.
The G1 uses the 3G network, which means it’s the third generation of mobile technology out there. 3G allows mobile users access to a full range of features on their mobile device, including wi-fi access, video calls and broadband data access, all at speeds that are competitive with companies that don’t currently offer 3G service.
T-Mobile utilizes 3G as the latest technology that provides their users with minimal loading time for content-heavy sites and searches.
The T-Mobile G1 makes use of a multipane search option which lets users search more than one website at once which can be viewed on the phone’s screen. The cell phone provides direct access to Android Market which users can use to download games and applications from categories like shopping, finance or communication.
The Android operating system has been developed since 2007. It is a open source operating system that mobile companies can use to develop, design and build applications and products using Open Source technology and distribution. The G1, that got developed by T-Mobile and HTC, got its name because it is the first commercial cell phone that is making use of the Android technology.
One of the latest additions of the T-Mobile G1 is a voice search feature that allows users to search the Internet without the need for typing. Updates are send to the G1 phone using over-the-air transmissions which means that they reach the phone automatically without the need for user action.
Android is also planning on releasing a “cupcake” update sometime in the near future, too, which will enable users to use a full qwerty keyboard via touch screen along with other applications that are not being revealed at this time.
Another application created by Google is called Latitude which allows users of the Android phone to share their location with people in their contact list. This is an interesting option for many users including parents who want to check on their children or friends who want to see where the friends are currently.
There is also much talk about a T-Mobile G2, but so far that might just be rumor – the G1 already has plenty to offer users without upgrade.
