July 21, 2008 – No it’s not what you think… Coldplay haven’t suddenly started writing songs for boy bands, scoring West End musicals or advertising popular fizzy drinks. In spite of worldwide success, a portfolio of classic songs to rival pretty much any rock act of the last twenty-five years and a fan-base that seems to continue to grow exponentially, Coldplay remain one of the most credible and authentic rock acts to grace the charts.
In fact, the only selling out Chris Martin et al are doing at the moment is on their Winter Tour, posing a problem for fans as to where exactly they can find tickets for these much-anticipated dates. Tickets for the UK leg of the tour went on sale on May 30th at 9.30 and just 20 minutes later both of the London O2 dates (December 14th and 15th) had completely sold out, with other UK venues reporting similar levels of interest.
Don’t miss out on the final few tickets
With tickets already being in short supply (and tickets for sold-out gigs allegedly changing hands through touts for £100+), the only way to pick up remaining seats is through online ticket companies such as TicketNova. Despite other sites stating Coldplay’s London and Belfast gigs are no longer available, TicketNova is one of the few places were Coldplay tickets are still available. However, there are only a few Coldplay tickets left for this tour – if you’re a die hard fan or a music lover who wants to experience one of the best live acts around, then you’re advised to get in quick.
With live music currently enjoying a massive resurgence, tickets for most major gigs are selling out in record time. Recent shows from Led Zeppelin and Prince at the O2 Arena have been cited as some of the best live music shows EVER with the much-criticised dome coming into its own as a live music venue. Tickets for these shows were changing hands for £1000s of pounds – but even those that paid over the odds for their tickets were unanimous in saying their approval of the experience.
One of the greatest live acts around?
Coldplay are currently celebrating the release of their fourth album “Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends” and will be playing material from the album alongside their previous hits. Produced by Brian Eno, the album marks the coming of age of a band that ranks alongside the likes of U2, Radiohead and R.E.M in combining critical and commercial success.
It’s been three years since the last Coldplay tour and if reports from the punters at the recent free gig at Brixton Academy on June 16th (not to mention Radio 1 listeners who heard the concert live) are anything to go by this latest tour promises to be the finest yet. The band are due to play 14 dates in the UK throughout December, starting in Birmingham on 1st December, then continuing through Glasgow, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, London and Belfast.
